Saint Chelidonia

Chelidonia was born in 1077 in Ciculum, Abruzzi, Italy. From a young age, she exhibited a profound devotion to God.

At the age of 20, she left her family home to pursue a life of solitude and prayer. She chose a cave, now called Marra Ferogna, near Subiaco, Italy, as her dwelling. There, she lived for 52 years in extreme austerity, dedicating herself entirely to contemplation and penance.

During her solitary life, she received her Benedictine habit from Cardinal Cuno of Frascati. She was known for her deep spirituality, humility, and commitment to a life of prayer.

Her reputation for holiness attracted many visitors who sought her for counsel and blessings.

She lived on minimal sustenance and rarely communicated with the outside world. Despite this, she became a beacon of faith and devotion, inspiring many.

She passed away on October 13, 1152, in Subiaco. Her remains were later interred in the Church of Saint Scholastica.

She is the patron saint of Subiaco, Italy.

Her feast day is October 13.

For God’s Glory.
